Dads' Night 2001: A Space Oddity
March 9, 2001
Well, its showtime again. Hard to believe another year has passed and we're back on stage already. We hope that you enjoy Dads Night 2001: A Space Oddity.
The show you are about to see is the result of over 130 Dads contributing to the final product, and planning that started immediately after the 2000 show. Whether it was script writing, building props, putting together the programs, selling ads, producing, directing, working backstage, acting and singing (defined in their broadest terms) or making beautiful music, everyone was a valuable and irreplaceable contributor. Whenever we needed help on a task, there were always several dads volunteering to step up, roll up their sleeves (or skirts) and pitch in. Believe us, we needed all of your help, and we appreciate it greatly. We are very proud to be associated with such a great group of guys and very honored to be the Chairmen for the first show of the new Millennium.
The Dads Night tradition started in 1944. "Dads Night" is actually a misnomer because there are events throughout the entire year. We continued some recent traditions, including Golf (2 outings this year), a Yankee game (135 tickets finally sold), and a picnic at the Sprunk family's house. New events this year included a trip to a minor league baseball game, a softball game, and an outing to the Big Apple Circus over the holiday break. Also, the world-famous Dads Night Band was prominently featured at the Ridgewood First Night celebration.
We would like to thank our families for their support throughout the year, and the past chairmen for sharing their lessons learned, and for keeping us on the right track. We would like to thank the audience for joining another successful show. We would also like to thank all of the sponsors that took out ads in the program. Please patronize them, and thank them for their support. All of the proceeds raised go to the Somerville and Hawes schools.
So now the time has come for all to have some fun, so sit right down and have yourselves a real good time. Have some laughs, and cheer for your favorite dads.
